Re: Phantom softtail vs squirrelly Hellhound

I like them both, but get more duds with the phantom soft-tails.... But when I get a good phantom softie it produces well.

Re: Reels for big blades

Haven't tried them all, but the Toro Beast 60 (4.9:1) in the first generation was a good reel for me with 10's. Pure Fishing has since changed it up and haven't used the new generation of Toro Beast that hit the market this year.

Re: New Muskie Fisherman / Fall Trolling

Agree with Duke on Mac and the Grand being tough to learn on. I have many hours trolling on Mac the past few years with little to show. Also, last time on Mac the amount of uprooting grass floating throughout the water column was maddening. Keeping a line clear for more than 30 seconds was a major p...

Re: New Muskie Fisherman / Fall Trolling

I usually look at where the bait is and try to run my baits thru and above the baitfish. I don't usually scrub bottom unless bait is belly to the bottom. I would rather run baits too high than too low.
I am not claiming to be a trolling expert, but it has worked for me.

Re: New Muskie Fisherman / Fall Trolling

Tough question to answer. Much depends on the baits, and target depths. I am generally trolling slower in fall compared to summer. My speed is generally between 3.3-5 in the fall. Line distance varies from 5'-100'. Depends on the target depth and application.

Re: Lake macatawa stocking

Has this lake just flown under the radar then ? Anyone have success on it ? Thanks I probably have more hours on it than all other club members combined the past few years, and have had limited success. 3 years ago my boat saw 7 fish landed. However, the past 2 years have resulted in just one conta...

I don't think so Steve. They aren't collecting any contact info, and are keeping all info anonymous.

Re: Muskellunge stocking 2015

WOW! I didn't have any problems seeing this, me the computer geek!! What was the average size? Info with a little more detail is on the DNR website stocking database. Average size going into various lakes runs from 8.54" to 11.5". Overall average of the fall stocking seems to be right at 9"....

Must hit spot would be "Ye Old Tackle Shop", and get a couple suckers. And try not to spend too much on baits in there, lol.

I believe as long as you have 3 shots you would be ok. I carry a 4 pack of hand flares.
Also, make sure they are within the expiration date.

Please somebody chime in if I am wrong.
