Re: Best inland lakes
Unfortunately right now the state is somewhat lacking for true action lakes where you’ve got a good shot to catch one per day. The stocking reports are still your best guide, with generally better odds in the smaller and more ‘closed’ lakes without an easy exit downstream or over a dam. Thornapple i...

I've only seen the Softails in action and they're a perfect 7 for 7 for working as advertised, go figure!... No complaints, definite solid producer in my experience.

muskie story
So I wrote an article for the Michigan Out of Doors magazine with the intent of reaching an audience mostly unfamiliar with muskies. I wasn't satisfied with the changed version that the magazine editor published, so I'm putting my version up here. I hope it didn't suck. As sportsmen and women in thi...

Re: New Muskie Fisherman / Fall Trolling
I don’t do much trolling, and typically I like it even less in the fall because baits that stop/pause/suspend tend to do better in cold water. But fall trolling is definitely a tried and true method that produces well too. It depends on the lake and the forage, but I’d be willing to bet that skimmin...

Re: Reel?
there is a big difference in size between the two, so choosing one really depends on what you want to use it for. The 400 is big enough to only be necessary for the heaviest pulling baits, 300 is sufficient for the vast majority of stuff. But other people probably have different opinions!

Re: Anglers play a major role in Michigan muskie program
Nice article! except for the questionable expert on all of Michigan's muskie fisheries quoted at the end. Unless he thinks that in order to be "good" a muskie fishery must crank out a fish per every hour like the only places he has guided?
