Martial arts (I'm in for the LSCN cage match), gambling and the 2nd best freshwater fish (smallmouths). I would probably try to organize a few saltwater trips and I really want to get a big tarpon.

I know I lost some fish last year because of a locked down drag. I have loosened it up and use my thumb if I feel the fish taking too much. I want to get them in the net as quick as possible but horsing them in doesn't work well for me.

I agree with everything Chad has said and here are some things to consider: -80 or 100lb braid is the way to go and I like PowerPro or Berkley Invisabraid. -After a full season with braid you can pull it off and flip it around for the next season. -Get a good leader like Chad has talked about (see i...

Sounds like you're hitting it hard and then feeding it too much slack line. The leader is getting run over by the lure causing the tangled hook, a little less slack should resolve the problem. You may want to think about heading to IN, KY or (God forbid) Ohio to take a shot at them earlier in the season. Early Spring you can look up in the shallows and throw small twitch baits.
