I have a couple of Calcutta TE 401's with the power handles and they work well but for big blades (size 13 & up) I like this 7001 by Abu Garcia. It has a low ratio (4.1:1) and is a beast but it also weighs 21 ounces so that is the trade off. http://www.muskyshop.com/modules/cart/products.php/nav_id/...

This is why I spent the time to grind down all the barbs on all my hooks with a Dremel tool. This way unhooking should go very swiftly and the fish will be back in the water. I know the theory that if you apply the proper pressure and technique that you will not lose any fish with barbless hooks bu...

It is a good launch and a boat that size will have no issues. It is a no wake lake and is state owned and there are no cottages on it and it is very peaceful there.

I think that Lake Ovid rents boats but I have never heard of a place that would rent the whole boat and trailer.

I would say the connector from the launch area was about 5' from the surface of the water to the top. Check out my report in the members section for my details.

Okay so I get what they're saying so do you just guide the line with your finger in the same way a levelwind does? Yes, as the line comes in you use your thumb to keep it even. If you have ever seen the videos where a guy gets pulled overboard most of the time that's not the drag set wrong its a lo...

Re: Levelwind question

I understand the theory behind a levelwind but what is its advantage(if any) over a non-levelwind reel? Why do freshwater reels have them and saltwater reels don't? Check out the 4th post down and it makes sense and I grew up saltwater fishing and all the reels did not have levelwinds and keep in m...

Re: GPS lakemap chips

Do you GPS users out there have any preference for the Lowrance vs. the Navionics chip for small-lake use? Which is the better deal? Thanks, Larry I purchased the Navionics hot maps premium 2008 based on coverage and what the guys at Cabela's recommended. I bought the East map and only used it for ...

That 4:1 might be good for a grinding reel, lots of power for double 10 blades and big cranks. One of the most important things that I have learned on my reels is to get one with a lower ratio. I would also look for one that either comes with a power handle or you can add a power handle for double ...

It was a real beast and Dale was there and he was actually signing autographs. Joe Bucher and a bunch of the presenters all praised his release of this fish and he seemed like a real nice guy.
