Miner Lake does have some pike, but it isn't an easy fishery at all. People do better through the ice than the open water season. The fish move very deep during the summer. I've spent much time there during my youth (family lives on the lake), and have seen a couple caught... not many though.

First Aid kit is a must... if you are accident prone like myself, and some Tylenol for the aches that arrive after 10+ hours of casting.

The only lauch that I don't know for sure as being open is the DNR launch in Big Bay, but I would assume it is open as well. I do know 3 other launches that have NO ice. With all the recent rain, I'm pretty sure it would be dark stain all the way through the channel. I think there are more muskies i...

Not all bucktails are created equal. I cannot use the same rod/reel for my small mepps as I do for DCG's. You will have a very hard time finding a combo that will be perfect for both. IMHO you may need to find 2 different set-ups to accomplish what you are looking for.

If I was going to go after a 40 pounder and stay in Michigan I would hit the Elk Chain or the St. Mary's. I really like the potential of the St. Mary's for miss piggy!!! [smilie=2c.gif] I'm hoping in 10-12 years that Hamlin might be there

I like Power Pro 80-100#. I also got some Stren Superbraid from last years banquet in 80# and that worked very well for me last season!! Also as far as reels, I used the same Okuma reel Jason referred to earlier for a good number of hours this season, and I really liked it for most applications. Scott

I know the MMA members are smart enough not to be taking trips to the Clear Fork area. No need to risk bringing any VHS back to Michigan. It shouldn't be an issue if they are following the safety precautions. I use a light bleach solution after fishing Lake Macatawa, because I would imagine there i...

Scott is that 7000 you have the 5:1? My Dad has one of those and likes it better than the 4:1 that I used to have. Yes Will, it is the 7000i HSN with a 5.3:1 gear ratio. I've never used one of the 4:1, so I couldn't comment on the difference. Mine has the narrow spool which makes the size manageabl...
