Lake Ovid outing canceled.

With the hot weather and water temps above 80 degrees the board believes that it's necessary to cancel the outing this Saturday July, 23rd at Lake Ovid. We have spent 5 years educating anglers about proper release, it’s important that we lead by example. We should not hold outings during conditions ...

Martin Williamson's fish was huge! The length was originally reported as 53.5 but was actually 56 since the original measurement was to the fork and not the tip of the tail. Girth was 31.5". By formula (LxG/25-10=weight) puts that fish at 60.5 pounds and actual weight was 61 pounds. To answer your q...

Yes, this would be specific to inland lakes and not water connected to the great lakes. Where present gizzard shad becomes primary, suckers and perch become secondary. The same could be said for the alewife though it's a more seasonal forage. In St Clair, muskies will key on one forage type quite of...

Thanks for the additional info. So even in cisco lakes, muskie are not eating manny cisoes? Many of the lakes in this study have high cisco populations but cisco made up a very low percentage of their stomach contents (.9%). One important factor to consider is that the fish in this study were captu...

What are the other 25%? LOL - I just realized that it doesn't make much sense to just list the top two and the bass/walleye. Though that's the point I was really trying to get across. This is a little more detailed and actually adds up to 100% Suckers 46.6% Perch 16.9% Crappie 7% Esox 4.7% Minnows ...

The study was done in Wisconsin on 34 bodies of water.

The biomass in the lakes sampled is very similar to our muskie lakes in Michigan. The lakes also represented a good variety, they ranged from cisco type water to panfish water.

What do muskies eat?

I was just putting some info together for Fish Fest and thought I would share this with everyone. It's good ammo for you when talking to the bass, walleye and panfish anglers.

It must be the spawn of the 84" tiger that is biting the heads off swans. A guy at the launch told me the DNR had shocked it up just to see what was killing the swans.

Ah, muskie fables... gotta love them!

Don't laugh... the other night a guy told me that a 54" muskie was caught in Murray last week. It has to be true, three different people told him the same story.

Kingfisher - The resolutions passed which means enough of the affiliate clubs voted in support of the MDAA proposals. The MUCC staff and the DNR oppose these efforts. If Holmes had his way there would be open spearing on all water and a have a 30" size limit. I almost jumped over the table when he s...

I think it's hilarious that you put Wisconsin on that list... why not include Indiana while you're at it.

The only thing for sure is that it will come from the water. That is unless Spray comes back from the grave to pull our chain on another World Record.

This is a matter of Mr. Holmes being totally out of touch with the world outside his darkhouse. He thinks he talks for the sportsmen of the UP - that worries me.

As I mentioned before these proposals went to MUCC, the DNR and NRC understand the importance and reasoning behind the closures.

Detrimental effect? How do you release a speared muskie?

I have a better idea, let's start spearing bass.

Less traffic, bad launch. There is parking for three rigs and you'll probably have to back your vehicle all the way into the water to get your boat off the trailer. It is a small lake, very small.
