Thanks guys, and Joe you are absolutely right- we probably would have camped out hoping for one of those miraculous treble hook upchucks, but unfortunately the bait was weighted a touch, and didn't float. With more optimism for her survival, I could appreciate one of the most awesome strikes I have ...

Big fish hard lessons

I thought I would never have a story like this to tell, but hopefully others can learn from my hard lesson. Casting a Shallow Invader over weed tops, the fish charged from 11:00 angle behind my lure. 15 feet behind the bait it started pushing a bow wave, coming like a freight train so fast that I co...

Grayling meeting report: A small but interesting collection of anglers showed up. 6 attendees total- 3 who only had brook trout interest, 2 were hook&line muskie/pike in favor of regulation changes, and 1 muskie/pike guy who only spears and was opposed to any regulation changes. The DNR staff really...

Hey Jim how goes it- If a CO thought they had a chance at catching somebody red-handed, I'm sure they would respond to a RAP line call at night. They would need to know when the guys were going to be out there. They probably aren't going to add a night time shift to their regular routine just hoping...

I attended the Newberry show last night, with very positive reviews. About 20 people showed up, most for brook trout but a lot of good pike discussion ensued as well. Muskies roused only a little interest, which was somewhat surprising. But the locals there are very well versed in muskies, so I thin...

Ovid is still weedy, but somewhat less than it used to be. It gets 2 major crops of weeds each year- first the curly leaf pondweed, which lasts until mid-June or so until it virtually completely dies out. Then the eurasian milfoil replaces it in all the same places, plus more. Both types will all bu...

Today's show enjoyed a very low student to teacher ratio, no fighting for elbow room. That's poistive spin. It was nice talkin some shop and dreamin about muskies. I liked having Michigan Muskie Shop there so there was more stuff than just the bait makers
