Hot Weather - HOT Water

Post by Will Schultz » Mon Jul 18, 2016 10:28 am

The forecast for the next couple weeks is hot and water temps on our inland lakes are going to get hot. Mortality on any muskie caught and released increases dramatically. To put it simply, don't fish for muskies in southern Michigan.

Questions about night fishing during hot water periods have come up. Though it may be much nicer for the angler it's just as bad for the fish if not worse. During the day weeds are producing oxygen but when the sun is down weeds will start using more oxygen than they're creating. Oxygen levels are dropping throughout the night and will be at their lowest levels.
