what is the Iowa program?
Iowa - Michigan Muskie Transfer
- Michigan Muskie Alliance initiated/established a fish transfer program in cooperation with the Iowa and Michigan DNR.
- MMA covers feed cost while in Iowa's Spirit Lake Hatchery.
- MMA arranges and funds transportation costs to the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery in Michigan.
- Rearing of the 4-5" Iowa fish is completed at Wolf Lake.
- While in place the project was responsible for stocking over 50,000 muskies in the state of Michigan.
- After 2005 Michigan DNR chose to dissolve the program and to only stock Michigan (northern strain) or Great Lakes strain (once that program is in place).
