Michigan Muskie Alliance

Some days at lake hudson there will be baitfish and carp sucking at the top of the water. they just sit there in big schools right at the top of the water. When its like this I never even see a Muskie. Why are these Carp and Baitfish just sitting there, and why aren't the muskies blowing up on them. It seems like they would be splashing all over the place going after these fish. Anybody have any ideas why the muskies won't bite on a day like this. It seems like they disappear and the bait fish and carp aren't afraid of anything. WHATS GOING ON?

HMMM? dont know but can tell you they do blow up on them when they are slurping the surface. I watched a 30 lber eat a 15" Carp a couple years back. It was awsome to see . The carp were in a little herd sticking thier snoots out of the water when we saw one get blasted on the surface. The last thing I saw was the Muskies head sliding under with her prize, dog boned in her chops. My knees were shakin ha ha ha . Hudson is a tough lake "because" of the tremendous forage base. They have so much to eat that few are caught on artificials. Ill be there next weekend or the following tuesday/wed. not sure yet. We do pretty good there in Late October and November trolling big baits . Hudson will turnover and its good just before this happens and after turnover its trollin time. The fish will be all over the lake and covering water has been the only way to hook up for us. I even get the planer boards out to widen the spread and run sliders for extra baits. I was there Wednsday of last week and had a monster hit on a top water bait but I couldn't get the hooks in her. It was a big fish, biggest one I have ever seen in Hudson. I was also there Sunday and had two up to the boat, but no takers. Hopefully next weekend will be the ticket.
