Michigan Muskie Alliance

I went down to Cabelas the other day and started talking with this guy down there while looking at the lures. He happend to be a muskie fisherman and he sounded legit (like hes fished everywhere) I really don't know. Anyway he said if I fish any of the Indiana lakes I should use an invisible type leader. I found this odd since the waters he primarily fishes are st. clair and the detriot river (way more clear to me) I just wan't to know if there is anything to this. Are the skis down there that much more line/leader shy? My guess is no, but I want some input. Thanks Adam

As far as your question of you need to fish flouro in Indiana? No, not at all. Their muskies are just as stupid as muskies in Michigan, MN, WI, OH, etc.

I've never seen flouro make a difference, even in shallow gin clear water. Flouro can change the action of a lure but I don't believe it's the flexibility of the flouro that makes a difference since the split ring or snap on the leader is loose fitting. I believe the action change can be attributed to the fact that 100# flouro is much thicker than 105# single strand, this added drag in the water will make lures act differently.

I'll use flouro for a trolling leader for few reasons:
- it's more durable than wire in that type of application (doesn't get weak if it kinks)
- for some reason, trolled fish seem to roll in a the leader/line more and the flouro is more gentle on the fish
- there is more shock absorbtion on a short line with flouro than wire
