Mike, Once upon time, I heard of a guy who used find enough muskies around the Charity Islands to make it worth while. That was years ago, though. Usually, June-July, and again in October, alot like many other GLS hotspots. I have an aunt who's got a small place on Wildfowl Bay. Pretty area. You don...

Mike, I know exactly what you mean. I got the opportunity to see first hand the replica of Ryan Dempsey's fish from Green Bay. Absolutely astonishing. I've seen big fish before but a real 60 lb. plus fish is truly a spectacle to behold. I thought seeing a 40 plus go under the boat and turn away from...

Whoooo hhoooooo!!! Finally, this is great news. However, we've been seeing unclipped, unmarked fish for years. The limited efforts of the WDNR to locate naturalized fish just weren't enough to uncover the truth. Muskies were NEVER extirpated from the bay, but survived in small numbers that were caug...

KTD Upper Peninsula
Just thought I'd give a brief update on the KTD push for the upper half. I spoke with Richard Hill, Jr. out of the Marquette DNR office who is the brand new person in charge of the boat launches. He was more than happy to help us post the signs and seemed very proactive toward the cause. I will be d...

Still room for education
Still room for education, even in a muskie rich state like Wisconsin. Saw this today on another forum, Lakelink, under Menominee River Marinette county. Instead of bashing the ignoramous like I would have in the past though, I would have offered to help him safely land the fish instead of fighting i...

So Will your saying that a green fish does not have the tendency to thrash more for a longer period of time in the net vs. a fish that has made a couple runs and jumps, if you keep its head below the water, even if you're going at its face with hookcutters or pliers? Not trying to sound sarcastic, i...

Wow. More differing opinions than I thought. My take.....green fish + net = twisted net, hooks buried, hurt fish, bleeding Steve. Way tired fish + warm water = stressed fish, possibly dead fish. Somewhere in between seems ideal but its not reality every time. From my experience a net in the water wa...

John, most will tell you that bad mono will look chaulky and stiff or brittle. UV light is its worst enemy. I'd say strip off 15 yds and use it one more season if you think its OK. On the other hand, is the price of a couple spools of line worth loosing a fish of a lifetime? All my rods, especially ...

John primarily knows what I use but I like 65 lb. white Power Pro. 80-90 lb. 5 ft long flourocarbon leaders. Never had the problem with line cutting guides but it can happen. You can replace the tip tops with hardloy or High SiC. Low stretch I do like but I use longer, more mod action rods and reels...

Fishing alone.........
Hey, here's a topic directly related to muskie fishing.............So I've been thinking about the past year and what I can do to make my time on the water more productive while fishing alone. I fished alone this year about half the time and realized that with only one bait (or two trolling) in the ...

Yep, kevin. I gotcha. I agree. In fact, I don't think that privatization is necessarily a bad thing in some cases. You are right about the wolf and the sheep! What got me is that they spent a million or so (it may have been much more) of our taxpayers money on the research only to find out what they...

Last year, the federal gov't decided to research privatization of many lower level natural resource jobs. Some were led to believe that their jobs were in jeopardy. But, they were told that the Feds would hire them back, through the private entity, to work doing the same duties, but with a substanti...
