The Great Lakes are one of the most treasured - and coveted - of all the nation's natural resources. As such, there is a constant strain placed on the lakes and their fragile ecosystem from a variety of sources: parched communities who want access to the water, a wide range of invasive species, ineffective sewer systems, feuding governmental bodies, recreational and industrial use and an outdated St. Lawrence Seaway.
