Sanford Lake

I've been out trolling on the weekends up and down the channel, seeing some suspended fish and lots of floating weeds but haven't hooked anything since mid June.

Look for upcoming Meetings/Events to be posted. MMA is having an outing on Sanford lake in September. There will be a presentation given on fishing the lake at our September meeting in Lansing.

I'll keep an eye out for that. I'm a novice at Muskie and I'm trying to learn all I can to improve my chances of catching more of them consistantly. I like fishing Sanford its close by and easy on and off at the Sanford Lake Marina 24 hours a day.

What is the water like in Sanford? Is it stained like Hudson or clear like LSC?

On a sunney day when the lake is quiet you can see the tops of weeds about 2'; max 3' down. It's stained water.

Oops! I posted the wrong OUTING date earlier. My post above is correct now.

The meeting and seminar will be on the SECOND Thursday of September, the 10th, though.

Duke gives an awesome presentation. Pair that with good food, great company, and beer, and you've got the best Thursday night ever!! Be sure to show up there.

When the water clears up (which I assume it hasn't quite yet) you can see down to the bottom at 6-7 when it is sunny. It generally is no where near as turbid as hudson or ovid, but when it rains it gets muddy.

Some slugs of muddy water today, otherwise good visibility today. Some of the areas are dirtier this year, IMO because the weeds are not matted up, so everyone drives over the flats. Its weird because I watch most of these people and they live on the lake, you would think they would know where the channel is by now. Anyways some stumps right now are within prop distance, and the water will probably be lower for the outing, so be careful. Also the launch at the Sanford lake marina is already getting pretty blown out, so when you load (if you power load), just go up on idle, so the lady doesn't yell at you.
