FOLLOWS, what could I do differently to convert?

Post by NOFISH4U »

Yep, seeing lots of fish, BIG ones, but they seem to just escort my lure out of their territory! I figure 8 up to 5 minutes depending on the fish. I use multiple lures and colors with the same result. Throwbacks consist of different lures and colors. This IS getting frustrating and I'm fixing to rig a stun gun on a pole and ZAP them at the boat! Any help would be appreciated as these fish are giving me fits and nightmares!

Thanks,

Fish WATCHER!

this is something I learned the hard way this year...

SPEED, SPEED , SPEED...WHEN YOU THINK YOU CAN'T GO FASTER
GO TWICE AS FAST...

Fish watcher...like bomba said speed WORKS..You probably know more than me anyway cos you`re seeing big fish...and I don`t catch big fish,,,,but you can also throw back a bass sized crankbait..or spinnerbait,or jig/creature,etc....BUT...I think if the fish is going to go..it`s going to go.....if it`s not it`s not.Not going to say you can`t convert them cos I don`t no poo.Had two fish saturday that you couldn`t take the bait away from them if you had to.Had a 24"dink follow a eagle tail 3 times a few weeks ago..not HOT...could I have thrown a bass sized shad rap, jig,or tiger tube back at em....and would he nail it??Maybe so.......but I don`t think that fish would go........Just my thoughts.

Hmmm. I must admit I'm not really consistant with speed. Mainly I go with slower speeds just to keep the blades vibrating. Perhaps I should increase speed and maybe the fish will instinctively think its dinner is making a getaway. What about pulsing the bait during the retrieve or zig-zag patterns?

Thanks and keep the suggestions coming!

yepper.......a youngster showed me about pulsating or fluttering a bucktail or bulging/changing speeds back to the boat.I never did that. All I ever did was burn em back,or tick weed tops with a big willow blade down deep.

as soon as you see the fish following, speed up, and I mean fast and dont stop, come into your L keep up the speed. if he's going to eat it most of the time it's on that turn at the boat.....

There are so many variables that go into this and without knowing these (the lure types, the retrieve, water clarity, depth, cover, etc.) it's difficult to give a decent answer.

Some lures are good for making fish eat on a figure eight and others are not. For many lures the last thing I want is for a fish to make it all the way to the boat.

If you don't want to give the details here on the forum you can send me a PM or email and I would be happy to give you some tips.

NOFISH4U, Try and remember that everyone goes through such periods of can't do anything right.

Muskie anglers get fill of humble pie

We failed to heed that fishing version of an old Las Vegas axiom — “If you can’t spot the loser in a crowd of anglers, you’re it.”
