How many muskies did they raise this year??If it's any thing like in the years past, that 12,500 for Hamlin lk. will use up half of our stocking populations?Iam not complaining just curious, for as you know i have been out of the loop for a few???

The 12,500 for Hamlin is only a small part of the production this year. If you look back at the pre-MMA days 12,500 would have been 2-3 years of Wolf Lake's production.

The Iowa numbers alone were around 10,000. The Michigan fish haven't been harvested yet but they're estimated at 40,000.

No I didn't make a mistake, I really meant to type those numbers and it feels so good.

40,000 Michigan fish plus another 10,000 Iowa fish. That means Michigan will plant upwards of 40,000 fish this fall. I can remember just a few short years ago when we thought 20,000 would be spectacular.

Thats the best news I've heard in a long time. Hopefully the DNR will be able to keep this level up. Once the DNR can consistently put out these types of numbers, we should be able to work together and add additional lakes the the stocking list (like Hamlin).

Good to see Michigan Muskie fishing will be thriving when I get back home.

In all seriousness, I was trying to make the point that even if some of the fingerlings die in transit or between now and release date we will still have twice the number stocked than what we previously thought would be a good stocking year.

The metric system does suck!

Im so happy to see a lake over here get fish. Are there any other new lakes up this year? How about Mona and Macatawa? With Lower Crooked and Austin going bye bye Are there any replacments closer to Muskegon being looked at? Kingfisher

Kingfisher, Just a reminder that Mona Lake and Lake Macatawa are classed as drowned-river mouth lakes and are connected directly to the Great Lakes. This requires that they be stocked with the GLS muskie as native specie reintroduction. This policy has been reaffirmed and tightened up since the old days of tiger muskie in Mona Lake and the single stocking of the northern strain in Lake Mac. Therefore, we will need to wait for the GLS program to finally get into gear.
