HI my name is matt and I am just getting started musky fishing last summer I didnt have any luck. This spring I plan on hitting it even harder. I am looking for advice on sanford lake area. where when and how.

I don't know why anyone would ever try to catch muskies on Sanford... No muskies in there.

I seem to remember at least one musky being in that lake that broke a losing fish streak for someone :)

Ok, sorry, a little more serious. I've only fished this lake 1 time, but had great success if I do say so myself. This lake though, like all trophy muskie lakes, is going to be one of the tougher lakes to fish. But hitting it the same as you would any muskie lake is going to pay off. Beat the weed edges, the buried timber, and the deeper river channels. Bright lures on bright days, dark lures on dark days, etc. I know there are a couple guys who fish this lake regularly and will get shut out a dozen times in a row. Like I said, it's just a difficult lake. Also, the ugly truth of the matter is that not too many people like to share too much info to non members. I know, it sucks, but that's just how it is. We will be having meetings throughout this whole year, and if you look at our Events schedule, we will be having another outing on Sanford lake this September. Last year, we had a presentation given on the lake for those people who would be fishing it for the first time. Lots of great info given there.

Yeah that was a nice fish. I remember another that hit my Beckman that day too!

Matt: My fish came from timber, Jason's fish came from a deeper weed edge.

I totally understand not wanting to give out info I actually didnt know that mma even existed before today some people at musky hunter pointed me in this direction. Just checking it out and im very interested in becoming a member.

Welcome aboard!!! We have at least 6-8 hard core guys that fish Sanford ALL THE TIME here within MMA, and probably another 2 dozen that get up there at least a time or two during the season. Join the fun and learn... We have our biggest gathering of the year in just a couple months in Lansing. Lots of merchandise, baits, gear, auctions, door prizes, and over 100 musky crazy people...

Sanford is a great lake- the only thing I can complain about is all the summer time boat traffic! It does take a few more hours on average to connect with a muskie on Sanford (or Wixom) than some other stocked lakes, but the average size is better out there with the chance at a true pig. And I don't think anybody on here is witholding any Sanford information from members or non-members. The truth is there just aren't any secrets of course. Sanford is tough because the whole bloody thing is good water- the fish can be anywhere- and their food is everywhere too, they don't have to have to work too hard for it. No shortcuts, just hard work. Any specific questions feel free to ask!
