Casting, what baits?

Post by kbkrause »

As I've posted b4, I'm relatively new to muskie fishing and have caught all my fish trolling body baits. I have a decent (depending on who's counting :) ) selection of body baits, Loke, SSR, Wiley, etc... I would like to get out casting a little more and I am looking to add some casting lures to the tackle box. What should I get? I'll be fishing LSC. My rods are rated for up to 2oz. I just received the R&H catalog and the choices are endless...

Those SSR's are a good start.
You might also try:
9" Bobbie
Bucktail (brass blades)
8" Jake
7 1/2" Grandma
9" jerk Grandma
Magic Maker
Bulldawg

Try to come to the MMA banquet..March 4th Lansing..There will be a good selection of "tested "casting" baits there ..including some custom Bobbies/ custom spinner baits etc..and can get soem first hand advice depending on type of fishing you like..and where/when you want/can fish.. (can impact colors/size/type of bait of course)

KB....your rods rated for 2 oz. are going to limit you to how much "LUMBER",you are going to be able to throw.I could be wrong...don`t have one in front of me..but most big sticks say 3.5-5 oz.??? I THINK...but not sure..

that would 86,magnum dawgs,Big fat jerks,etc...

True but it also depends on the rod. My 8' St Croix rods are rated for up to 3oz. This rod throws a 6oz. mag-dawg like a dream!

I will second Kingfishers reply on the Little Claws. They have a few different models and they catch fish and have a very durable finish.

One that has not been mentioned is the Rapala Super Shad.

I just picked up some Grandmas at Gander in Taylor for $9.

Bob isn't that what Will meant when he said SSR?? Sometimes you can even find the Raps at meijers or dick's for like 5 bucks.

Mepps
Suicks
Jakes/grandmas
bulldawgs

easy to find at stores and combined probably catch more muskies in a season than all other baits put together.
