Kicker engines and HP limit lakes.

Post by LonB »

On lakes with HP restrictions, is it kosher to only use the small kicker (assuming that fits withen the HP limit)?
Or is it a matter of not being able to even use a boat that has a higher HP engine on it?

Thats a tough one. several Lakes in the U.P. require your boat to have one engine and it must be 10 hp or less. If you are using a kicker you will get ticketed if there is a larger motor bolted on. In Ohio Kickers are ok. To enable Michelle and I to fish anywhere we just bought a small second boat with a 9.9 merc. We can fish the Ohio Lakes that have the limits and the Upper Pen lakes as well. You should see what we did to a meyer sportspal canoe so we can fish on lakes with no engines allowed. Platforms, outriggers ,etc . I have an 18 foot starcraft,a 14 foot Jon and a canoe. With them I can fish anywhere there are Muskies. Kingfisher

The OH lakes are what I had in mind.

I guess Pymatuning has a 10hp limit, yet is pretty darn big.
Leesville and it seems like another had a 10hp limit. I'd like to check out these lakes this year.

With only a 6hp motor that I can operate that would shure make for a long day of fishing on such a large lake as Pyma.

Here in Ohio you can have both a 9.9 kicker and your big engine on the boat at all of the 9.9 lake including Pymatuning that is in both Ohio and PA. As long as you are not running the big motor you will not have any problems.
