Muskie Numbers and the DNR

Post by bconnected »

 allright, high everyone, i am new to muskie fishing, and was introduced by my uncle who fishes in Indiana and is a member in his state. Last year we took a trip to cave run lake, KY in early september, and had a few follows, but no hook ups in 3 1/2 days of fishing, I come home, and go by myself to bankson lk. near my home, and land my first , and only muskie so far, a 32 incher. i went to webster in. and fished earlier this year and saw my uncle get one on a top raider , about 38. ANYHOW, my question involves MICHIGAN dnr info, and bankson lake. does anybody know if mdnr post any information on muskie per acre, or last stock efforts and on what lakes.? when was the last bankson stock? does anyone fish bankson regularly, and does it get a lot of pressure in the summer like now? im thinking of going tomorrow am , maybe this evening, im going to gander mountain, hopefully to get a kickin minnow, is anyone from the kalamazoo county area like i am , and fish somewhere besides bankson? well i hope you all hook and release a 50 incher today, and please repost, any info at all , ill take it.

Stocking is a matter of public record and easy to access. Just go to www.michigandnr.com/fishstock and you can get stocking figures for any species you want.

Bankson has good numbers but there are issues with locals and out of staters that keep them and eat them. Most are not legal fish. It gets high to medium pressure. We still fish it once a year and generally do ok. We throw Talonz Little claws with good results and bucktails. Troll Hoginaters and slashers in white(superman) or perch/bass patterns. Bull dawgs over open water as a lot of the Bankson fish hold deep. I know of a few guys who do real well fishing it at night. You can see the Slashers and Little Claws at www.fishall-lures.com we make them . Kingfisher

The Michigan Muskie Alliance has a board that you may want to look to for some info. Living in the Detroit area and having a cottage on Tippy I monitor both this board and theirs.
fish em hard, and leave them live
