Asian carp

I found Michigan Sportmans Forums (thanks Mike) and saw a post regarding the possible invasion of the distructive fish. It is being held back in Illinois right now. I emailed a man at the NWF. They also listed a phone number to call your congressman to voice your I don't know much about this fish. Just what I have read. Can anyone shed some light on this, how did it get to the states, why can't it be killed off? Thanks.

There is some good news. #1 they are allowing the comercial taking of these trash fish by fisherman in Ill and other waters where they are. This has already reduced the average size from 30 to about 13 lbs. and it is dropping. It seems they were brought in by Asians who like to eat them and they got into the Mississippi and so on. If the states that are battleing them get smarter they will start stocking more Muskie to eat the smaller ones and get to some kind of balance where they are not exploding in numbers. The barrier must be kept in working order. That is a must have block to keep the things out of the Great lakes. Mike

One fellow that has been in my store and talked fishing with me told me that there have been these carp caught in Muskegon Lake already. Has anyone heard of this??? Hope not, as this would mean a few are getting thru. :?

Buffalo have been mistaken in many places. Most people have never seen a buffalo and think they have just caught a big head or silver.

These species are not uncommon and have been use to clean ponds and small lakes across the country. If you read the above links you'll see that they entered the Mississippi from hatchery ponds where they were being used to clean algea. The problem is that they need to be contained and these were not.
