St.Marys to munuscong to st.joseph channel help!

Going to the soo next week with wife in tow(10th anniv)....lol.Don`t know how much fishin we`ll do(need decent weather..lol),going to tie in some relaxin,gamblin,and even anchor a few spots close by and sun bath/lolly gag fish,but here is my other game plan and any help/advice/ideas/location/techniques would be thankful....mostly location/techniques.

Going to burn down to munuscong and troll believers,grandmas,etc..big stuff,out in a little deeper water 8-20fow,not the shallow bay stuff.Also cast some bucktails/spinnerbaits in a little shallower stuff.

Another day or two go thru the channel to canadian side,supposed to be like a minefield and pristine(boulders)probably fish smallies up tight to rocks.Maybe throw some bucktails/spinnerbits up tight,and probably troll a bit with some kingfisher spoons and other big stuff cos it`s a mixed bag there(salmon to muskie).

Also ther is supposed to be a pretty good walleye bite in august in the evening trolling around the shipping channels in the river(cool cos that`s close by

Any other ideas???

I'm bored so I'm not going to spell this out for you. Besides, it's more fun to figure stuff out for yourself - Right?

A good Walleye bite near the shipping channel - eh? Hmm, if it's that specific and walleye migrate with forage...

I wonder where the perch fishermen are catching limits up there right now...

I thought that was pretty clear...

#1 - The walleye and muskie won't be far apart from each other.
#2 - If there's a good perch bite going the muskies will be there.

Beyond that you'll have to figure it out. Remember this: looks pretty and feels right aren't part of the equation if you are going to be successful.

It's really this simple - F+L+P=Success.

It is Al !!It is Al ? Wait a minute thats not A. lOL. Hey Im watching this post as well. I have charts Dave. Detailed charts. It is a minefield over on the other side. Look close at the big picture from Georgian Bay to the Bridge. What do you see??? I kind of like the area north of Drummond Island . Used to be a big perch bite there until the Cormorants showed up. Some of the water up there looks like its very hard to get to by boat ha ha ha . Float plane? Cant find all the launches only a few. Im going to have to drive around a lot and take the ferry across to Drummond and such. May have to come in from Canada. Very cool looking area. Could lose your lower unit in a second. Ill bet there are no jet skis and water skiers eh?? Kingfisher

I would like to troll through those balls of herring that people are going up fishing for, and I just wonder how many of those staging pink salmon are filling the muskies with Omega 3 fatty acids???

Hey King not going that far east...just barely getting into canadian waters by neebish island,st.joseph island area and just scratchin canadian waters in munuscong.

Hey Mike,how do you run your spoons (I got your spoon packet at the banquet 2 yrs .ago),on how much weight?How far back??

Hey Dan I forgot about that....we have relatives that do the herring thing for years and there`s atlantic salmon in there too.....isn`t it about time for the pinks to run??

Never fished downtown...but seen the boats anchored from shore....good idea..

those pink salmon will be outside of the major current right now jumping all over the place. It must be like a million big weagles up there. It probably isn't true, but I would love to believe that there is a strain of queen musky that has figured these little morsels out and follows them in on their bi-annual spawning migration. I have been thinking about that for a couple of years now, you want to talk about a fatty, WR makin forage, well there you go!!!

I have walleye fished there a few times and love the scenery. We were in a tourney so I did not get a chance to musky fish.
We fished walleyes at the mouth of the Lake George, we jigged from the beaver dam out about 3/4 mile.(lots of sturgeon in this area in August)

Also east of the Garden River we trolled bottom bouncers with the current.
Same program in the Munuscong area along the shipping channels.
Jigged the power plant area.

Went as far as Raber Bay and slowed trolled harnesses and did land some pike in this are. East of Raber Bay I casted 1/4 jigs and caught some on the Cdn Shoal.

Good luck, it is beautiful on the river.

Hey Dave,
I spent a few hours there-this one time, at musky camp- The Neebish channel should not be overlooked, just dowstream there is some very good structure and a few islands on the west side of the river. Raber and Munuscong are VERY shallow and treacherous to maneuver there are rocks but there are also sand bars that form for no good reason in spots. If yu go to Munuscong hit the south shore of the bay there is still some deeper spots and you will find weeds in 8-10 feet of water. It can be casted and trolled without to many navigational problems. The rest is so shallow that you can actually get trapped in there if the wind comes up on you-trust me that sucks hard- There is a decent launch at Raber and one up by Neebish. The one the maps show in between isnt there anymore it was privatized and removed. Dont plan on any help from the locals either. There is a guy up there who charters that has a resort on the little Munuscong river Bert something is his name, We spent a few hours BSing and looking at pictures. He catches all his fish trolling the river Pre-September mostly on Trinitys and the likes. make sure to take your GPS that water is BIG. One more thing- even if you can handle the chop keep an eye on the wind we launched in Raber and ran upriver, ten hours later when we came back there was a strong west wind and its a couple miles from the river channel to the launch. 5 foot waves + 6 foot depths = poopy in the pants.
